Novanna Richards. Artist’s Statement

As an artist my aim is to take the viewer out of the everyday world and into the realm of the spiritual.

Motherhood, in both the personal maternal and the greater overarching awareness of mother earth is a significant informant of the work. Whilst I work mostly in oils I am increasingly working with clay sculpture producing works around the spiritual, fertility and nurturing . My style is evolving and is more inclined to the expressive than strictly representational

I also create a body of work of a more surreal nature. Semi abstracted forms and visions emerge, using a range of experimental techniques. Each painting, to me, is a unique journey and often takes a surprising turn in the process of creation.

I feel that the creative process should not become repetitive and stale and that each of my exhibitions brings, I hope, something new and exciting to the viewer. Often spiritual, sometimes playful.
